Chatting with Columbia University Students
On October 19 our staff participated in the Columbia Nihongo Chat Club. This was the second time we participated this academic year, the first time was at the end of September. The Chat Club is an opportunity for Columbia students studying Japanese to talk with each other and native Japanese speakers. This is a great opportunity for Japanese and those interested in Japan to have meaningful exchange and learn about each other. The level of Japanese varies among the students as they are at different levels in their studies, but the students enthusiasm and desire to communicate are admirable. Many students attended and luckily we had many of our staff and other volunteers to engage with students in Japanese conversation. Discussions covered a broad range of topics including pop culture, Japanese history, and student backgrounds.
We were happy to see the level of interest in Japanese and its culture as our goal is to foster more interest and appreciation for Japan and its culture.
